Fake Pharma Job Offers: 10 Warning Signs and How to Stay Safe

By Pharmacy Updates Team · 2 Oct 2026

Every month, many pharmacy students lose money to fake job offers that use the names of well-known pharma companies. Scammers target freshers because they are eager to start their careers. This guide explains the common warning signs so you can protect yourself and your friends.

10 warning signs of a fake job offer

  1. They ask for money. Registration fee, "security deposit", training fee, laptop fee or document verification charges. Genuine pharma companies do not charge candidates for interviews or offer letters.
  2. Offer without an interview. A real company will assess you – written test, technical interview or HR round – before giving an offer.
  3. Free email IDs for "HR". Messages from addresses like company.hr@gmail.com. Big companies use their own domain, e.g. name@companyname.com.
  4. Very high salary for freshers. If a fresher QC or production post promises an unusually high salary compared with the industry, be cautious.
  5. Pressure to decide fast. "Pay within 2 hours or the seat will go to someone else."
  6. Poor language and formatting. Spelling mistakes, wrong company logos or blurred letterheads in the offer letter.
  7. Contact only on WhatsApp. No office address, no landline, no official website link.
  8. Asking for sensitive details early. Bank OTP, card details or full Aadhaar/PAN copies before any interview.
  9. Job not on the company careers page. Most large companies list openings on their official careers portal.
  10. "Agent" guarantees a job. Someone promising a sure job in a big company for a fee.

How to verify a job before applying

  • Search the company's official website and careers page for the opening.
  • Check the email domain and the phone number on the official site.
  • For walk-in drives, confirm the venue address matches the company's real plant or office.
  • Ask seniors or pharmacy groups if anyone has attended the same company's interview.
  • Search the company name plus the word "fraud" or "scam" online.

What to do if you are targeted

  • Do not pay any amount and stop communication.
  • Do not share OTPs, bank or card details.
  • Report cyber fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or the cyber-crime helpline 1930.
  • Inform the real company through its official contact so it can warn others.
  • Warn your friends and share this page in your class groups.
